Think in accumulation,
not emergency.
The word exposome describes the total of the external influences we encounter over time. For hair, that can include ultraviolet radiation, water, humidity, pollution, grooming, colour treatments and heat styling. Summer simply brings several of these influences closer together.
Hair fibre is non-living material. Once its surface is weathered, it cannot biologically repair itself. Care is therefore less about reversing time and more about reducing avoidable stress, improving feel and limiting the next round of friction.
Protection is a sequence of small decisions, repeated consistently.
One head.
Two kinds of care.
THE SCALP IS SKIN
An exposed part line or thinning area can burn. Shade and a hat are practical first choices; when skin remains exposed, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher sunscreen suitable for that area and follow its directions. A hair tonic is not a substitute for sunscreen.
THE FIBRE IS MATERIAL
Research on hair photodamage associates prolonged light exposure with changes to hair proteins, lipids, pigment and surface texture. The visible result may be more roughness, dryness, fading or reduced shine—especially when exposure is repeated.

has left behind.
Protect exposed scalp skin. For the lengths, physical coverage and less cumulative exposure are the most straightforward measures.
Sea water can leave residue and increase a dry or stiff sensation. Rinsing with fresh water after swimming is a simple reset.
Pool water and repeated wet-to-dry cycles can make already processed or porous hair feel rougher. Rinse promptly and handle wet hair gently.
Before. After.
Then continue.
- BEFORE
Reduce what you can.
Choose shade or a hat for prolonged exposure. Before swimming, detangle gently and avoid placing fragile wet hair under unnecessary tension.
- AFTER
Rinse, then cleanse with purpose.
Use fresh water after the sea or pool. When washing, focus shampoo at the scalp and let the lather travel through the lengths rather than aggressively rubbing them.
- CONTINUE
Return softness without excess.
Condition the lengths as needed, blot rather than twist with a towel, and reduce additional heat when hair already feels dry or rough.
